The Lokes (and Chuahs) does Cheng Meng...

My family regularly treats Cheng Meng as a food fest.

I kid you not. You'd think the last place one would have makan-makan is at the graveyard, but heck no. My family? We'd probably drag tables and chairs there if we could.

We've been going for our annual Cheng Meng a week later than the actual date because of past experience(s).

So, anyways the SOP was to go to my grandparents' graves first (the old school hillside type which I would never ever go alone because I'm scaredy cat, unless you pay me a million bucks) and then head on to the memorial park nearby where my dad's ashes are.

It's a good thing my grandparents got a combined grave, so we don't have to go that many rounds (Deryk has 9 spots, crazy!) and it doesn't feel like a chore.

In fact, it feels like a party. =p

I mean, we have food, liquor (technically, it's for the deceased, plus it's too early to drink anyways =p), firecrackers, laughter all abound and fat jokes (don't ask).

And because I'm the third eldest grandchild on my dad's side, I get to pull ranks and get the younger cousins to do the works. *cue evil laughter*

When my grandparents have 'consumed' the 'food' that were spread for them and are full, then we get to stuff ourselves silly with bah kut teh, siew yoke, char siew pau, loh mai kai, steamed chicken, fatt kou (that pink kuih), fruits and oddly this year, sushi as well.

I don't think my grandparents knew what sushi was. They were probably thinking, "Why the hell are you giving me uncooked food?"

And then after we're done, we head on over to Fairy Park, where it feels more like a place of interest, than a memorial park. It's basically the same ritual as above, but heheh, here you have the ice-cream man! It's not complete without the ice-cream man, I tell ya.

Fairy Park Memorial. It's like going on a holiday.

Where my dad's ashes are. It over looks a garden.

My eldest brother doing the filial son thingy.

SIL couldn't make it because she had a training session. The lovely chrysanthemums are there to replace her.

So, really, I have food, family and people to poke fun at.....what's there not to like?

6 say what?:
